Optimistic Thoughts
I truly hope that all of you are well, safe, and to the best of your ability and circumstances, adhering to any and all “social distancing” mandates. I am an optimist at heart and in my mind, always looking at the glass as being 3/4 full, and although the rose colored glasses I wear are tainted with a little something called REALITY, I am NOT a believer in the title of the song by the band R.E.M. (i.e.,”It’s the End of the World as We Know It”)! We will get through this together, and hopefully the overwhelming majority of the population will take on the mindsets of:
-
- Martin Luther King Jr. (“We all came in on different ships, but we’re all in the same boat now.”);
- the medical director Max from the show “New Amsterdam” set in NYC (“How can I help?”);
- Maya Angelou (“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.”); and
- the band WAR’s classic song (from 6 feet away of course) “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”
… and not the latter part of a line my wonderful wife Joy came up with years ago, that being: “In times of adversity there are those that truly shine, and there are those that run the other way.”
Until next time my friends, I leave you with two more thoughts; the first from Sergeant Phil Esterhaus from the classic 1980’s show “Hill Street Blues,” and the other from the one and only Jerry Garcia and his co-lyricist Robert Hunter.
“LET’S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE” and “NOTHING LEFT TO DO BUT SMILE, SMILE, SMILE!”
